Thanks so much to all you awesome people who were there waiting on the stream. I was SO mad at myself for not getting it right for you guys…my heart really sank feeling like I let you guys down. But like I say with my daughter: don’t wish the past could have been different, but see what you can do now and in the future! I’ve been up all night now troubleshooting and it looks like the laptop Bluetooth has quit, which is why it would give sound for a few seconds after turning off and then back on. I thought it was the headset itself, but on my PC the mic works amazing. I now cannot get ANY response via the laptop Bluetooth via any program/restarts/etc., so it looks like it has completely failed.
In any case – I can’t wait to see you guys in 20 hours or so! Hopefully most of you, all of you, and more of you, can come all come back on! We’ll have a great time and it will be even more interactive than it would have been. I have a GREAT presentation for you all which I actually wrote while out camping! Altering insolation energy has a pedigree in Science Fiction.
In the late 1950s the BBC Home Service radio station ran a Sci-Fi drama called “Shadow on the Sun” in which the Earth was plunged into an ice age by the presence of a cloud of dust in space that blocked the sunlight.
In 1972 Isaac Asimov explored the idea of interdimensional energy transfer in his story “The Gods Themselves” in which as a consequence of the quantum tunnelling the Sun was going to become a super nova.
Turning down the dial on the sun by stellar quenching however is a more challenging approach worthy of the talents of an astrophysicist. 🙂

Finally quit reddit again. The straw on the camel’s back was gaming related. Forgive the tangent, it’s relevant.
I posted about a sci-fi game in the “lore” reddit for it, discussing how the game interprets space travel. Comparisons were made to other sci-fi franchises. The post was deleted because the subreddit has a strict policy of only discussing information sourced from explicit references in the game. So the game has warp drives, but unless there’s a quote or text describing how they work, you are not allowed to discuss them.
I know this seems mundane, but it’s part of a larger trend I’ve noticed on reddit which follows directly from their administrative reaction to COVID stuff. It’s basically this: “What you see is what you get. There’s no hidden meaning, no subtext. Don’t analyze, don’t notice anything. Don’t discuss any information that’s not explicitly given to you by authoritative sources.”
You can sort of intuit when Tavistock style behavioral constraints and habit training are being introduced obliquely.
And the climate skeptic sub is weird in its own way. I’ve noticed that scientific discussions of RGHE, “sky dragon” stuff, leads to quiet users posting a dozen boomercon news articles about Greta and “the libz” which is massively upvoted. This is called sliding.
I’ve been talking about RGHE there, and the majority of active users who are skeptics are unwilling to deny it. There are maybe 2-6 who accept the basic premises of the lecture posted above.
In my final post I neglected the scientific discussion and just asked why people believe so strongly in RGHE.
I got a half dozen different, I mean completely different, responses that were more or less trying to talk me off the cliff so to speak. “The climate is just too complicated to draw simple conclusions from pressure and gravity.” There’s one. “Well yes pressure and gravity cause the warming but that IS the greenhouse effect, so I wouldn’t go around denying it exists.” What?
I understand the Planet Wars premise, but there’s an added sense I’m picking up which is just that people seem not merely to love cognitive dissonance, but it’s as if they are starting to love the sensation of being an idiot. Maybe that’s the endgame of cognitive dissonance.

I mean it’s a good test. Not sure if you are familiar with Hockney, but they wrote about a device called a “Soul Camera”, which could detect your soul, and tell you things about it. Well, what we have here, with your question for example, is a type of soul camera: the question you pose and the weird responses to it, and also how I find these strange responses when I ask people/scientists if representing the Earth as a sphere might be better, give us the “image” of the respondents soul/mind: they’re basically not there anymore; they say retarded shit; etc.
And yes, what you’re finding is analogous to, or a direct example of, telling people that Twitter is now for free speech, but then, of course, private interests are still moderating and shadow banning, to teach you or condition you to think that this is what free speech is – speech which you are ALLOWED to say, only.

First they say that the RGHE is about backradiation making the surface warmer.
You point out the 1st Law and the definition of heat, showing that that idea is impossible.
Then they call you an idiot, and say it was never about that, but that it is about slowed cooling.
You point out that slowed cooling doesn’t mean raising temperature above -18C input; you still need much higher than -18C input.
Then they call you an idiot again, and bring up sweaters.
You point out that sweaters are about convective stoppage, just like how a real greenhouse works, which contradicts the claim that the RGHE and backradiation is what it is all about.
Then they call you an idiot again.
Then you point out the lapse rate, and that the RGHE diagrams claim that the RGHE is responsible for the lapse rate, whereas the ideal gas law and gravity, adiabatic effects, is.
Then they call you an idiot again, and say that the RGHE is about setting the height of emission.
You point out that the height of emission cannot be at the surface where it has to be hottest due to the lapse rate, because that’s not where the average can exist.

At no time since the foundation of the solar system has the Sun ever instantaneously shone over the whole surface of the Earth.
The divide by 4 dilution of solar intensity used in the standard model is a complete fiction. The reality is divide by 2 if you want to insist on using averages.
The next step in the process of returning the so-called “Climate Science” to reality is to incorporate meteorology into the analysis, specifically the process by which energy that is captured by the atmosphere and oceans at the tropics is delivered to the poles by the meridional advection process of fluid mass motion (the winds of the atmosphere and the currents of the ocean thermohaline circulation).
The last time I checked the surface of the solid Earth does not rotate from the equator to the poles, yet this is precisely what is required in the formulation of the Vacuum Planet equation.

does not occur. The solar energy input does not spread over the whole surface of the Earth.
The equation EI = (1 – a) * Ω/4 spread solar energy evenly over the entire surface of the Earth, which could only occur if the Earth were flat, which is why they use flat lines to represent the Earth with this approach. This is how it is flat Earth theory. The solar input is not equal to 1/4 of itself. The solar input is equal to itself, not 1/4 of itself; the solar input does not spread over the whole surface of the Earth.

This is the effective temperature of the Earth, and it is exactly what the Earth’s temperature is.

The solar input does not spread over the sphere. To mathematically spread it evenly over the entire surface area of the sphere, would physically imply that that surface area has to in fact be a flat plane facing the sun, because that would be the only way to get that entire surface area evenly illuminated. This is of course why the relevant diagrams draw the Earth as a flat line, i.e., a flat plane.

When a flat line is used for the Earth, this is indeed a geometrical representation of a flat plane. A flat plane Earth is the only way one could have the solar input fall evenly over the entire surface. When one uses such a flat Earth approach, it requires that the solar power be equal to 1/4 of itself, which dilutes it down to -18C heating power, which is unable to create the climate. When the solar input is reduced to 1/4 of itself, this makes the sun unable to create the climate. To make up for this mistake, a fudge-factor pseudophysics “climate greenhouse effect” is invented to make up the difference.
However, if you just use a spherical Earth and the solar input as-is, then, the solar input does have enough heating power to create the climate.
We should prefer to use a spherical Earth and the solar power equal to itself, rather than a flat Earth with solar power equal to 1/4 of itself.
Modern climate science is a waste of an education.
You should see on those FB posts how many different ways these midwits come up with to defend that solar energy input spreads over the entire surface of Earth.
This mental tare is everywhere, disassociation from physics, or whatever you want to call it.

@cdmarshall7448 average global temperature is mostly a physician’s was of justifying there is no equilibrium on the planet, that more energy is being added then is being removed expressed as temperature.
Most climate models don’t try to work around this value because it doesn’t reflect the issues they are concerned with such as seasonal ice melt or rainfall. But it’s easier to convince a wider public of phenomenon they believe is taking place than to show for example the antartic sea ice calving rate over 50 years.
However, average temp is also harder to falsify, especially since the way it is derived includes quite a lot of creative license with arranging and omitting data.

@6Sparx9 A common problem in modern climate science is confusing (or deliberately misdirecting) flux with energy. Energy equilibrium does exists on the planet according to the conservation of energy laws/ thermodynamic equilibrium does not.
Energy in equals energy out in a 24 hour period. Flux in does not equal flux out and never will on planet Earth. Even the on the Moon flux in does not equal flux out.

@cdmarshall7448 well when we talk about average temperature in the specific context of climate change study we are almost always referring to land surface temperature or sea surface temperature. You know this so I don’t get your point, what do you mean? Is it because I mentioned physics? Apologies for the conflation.

@6Sparx9 Surface temperature is not the average global temperature. The surface is the warmest point of Earth’s global temperature gradient (which includes the surface/troposphere) and as such will always be the warmest point of the system.

@cdmarshall7448 when climate studies compiled in the IPCC reports predict the catastrophic effects of a 1.5 to 7 degree rise in average global temp, they are referring to a normalized average derived from weather/observation stations measuring LST. Or in some cases satalite image data of troppo but less so since this data only goes back 50 years.

Hmm, some protestants might question any assertion of the right way to “do” christianity. What does that term mean anyway? Perhaps the effect of protesting against indoctrination? Maybe look into the etymology of the term? Pro; means for. Test; means a vessel used to evaluate the purity of metals.
