In September of 2020 the “Royal Society Open Science” journal published a peer-reviewed article claiming to provide experimental evidence for the mechanism of global warming, i.e., the radiative greenhouse effect. In summary, the experiment was this: fill a balloon alternately with air, and with carbon dioxide, and measure how quickly a hot electrical element heated with power from outside to +500C placed inside the balloon cools down.
Thus, right from the foundation of this experiment we may identify that it has nothing to do with the radiative greenhouse effect of climate alarmist political science, which is the actual basis of global warming theory. For, what is the radiative greenhouse effect of climate science? We see it in the next figure.
The mechanism of the radiative greenhouse effect of climate science, as opposed to the mechanism of a real greenhouse, is found in “backradiation” where the radiation from the cold atmosphere causes the temperature of the warmer surface to rise to higher temperature. We note that although climate science calls this proposed mechanism of “backradiation” a “greenhouse effect”, real greenhouses function by limiting convective cooling and their internal temperatures do not rise above the temperature at which they are heated by the Sunlight. In the “greenhouse effect” of climate science, “backradiation” is said to cause the temperature of the ground surface to rise above the temperature at which it is heated by the Sunlight.
From the previous figure, sparing the details of the minutia and assuming that the reader has some familiarity with this scheme, the climate science greenhouse effect and in fact the very foundation of climate science is such that it treats the Sunlight as being unable to create the climate at all, where the Sun has only a maximum of -180C heating potential for the surface of the Earth. Climate science starts here because it dilutes solar power over the entire surface of the Earth as if the Earth is a flat plane, which by mathematical consequence in this treatment forces the Sunlight to be reduced to a heating power of -180C from its actual intensity at the Earth of +1210C. Under this erroneous premise that the Sunlight cannot create the climate or heat the Earth above -180C, climate science then postulates a “backradiation” or radiative greenhouse effect, where the cold atmosphere recycles or sends heat back to the warmer surface to increase the temperature of the surface from -180C to +150C.
Does the experiment published by the RSOS actually demonstrate this in some sort of experimental analogy? Not at all. Not in any way whatsoever. It doesn’t touch upon climate science’s proposed warming mechanism at all. All that the experiment did was place a 500C element into a balloon, and then watch the temperature drop. What the experiment should have been able to do, and what it should have been designed and intended to do, particularly in the case where the balloon was filled with 100% CO2, was show that, for example, a heating element placed inside the balloon at -180 (or any value) was bumped up in temperature to some much higher value. Nothing of the sort was demonstrated at any temperature, and nothing of the sort was even attempted nor discussed, thus demonstrating that neither the authors, nor the peer-reviewers, had any idea what they’re actually supposed to be testing. This is the state of climate science and peer-review!
This is not a novel argument to attempt to feign evidence or reasoning for climate science’s “greenhouse effect”. We have witnessed it many times. For when it is pointed out that the backradiation heating mechanism of climate science’s greenhouse effect violates thermodynamic law in that it posits heat flow from cold to hot (an impossibility), then the argument switches from direct heating and direct temperature increase caused by backradiation to “backradiation slows down cooling which leads to higher average temperature over time since the surface doesn’t cool down as far”. Of course, that changes the entire premise of the initial argument, changes the goal posts, and changes the entire field: for slowing down cooling from a maximum solar heating of -180C such that, say, it reaches only -250C instead of -350C, does not cause the average between such values to become +150C! What they need to demonstrate is some cool temperature becoming a much higher temperature, not merely a cool temperature cooling more slowly to some even cooler temperature.
All of the experimental and empirical evidence required to demonstrate, or disprove, whatever mutually-exclusive mechanism of climate science’s “greenhouse effect” one wishes to subscribe to, is provided in an actual greenhouse. For an actual greenhouse does produce its own “backradiation” or “slowed cooling” internally in any case. Do real greenhouses demonstrate that internal temperatures can be achieved which are higher than the temperature at which they are being heated by the Sun? There are numerous examples of such experiments being performed starting even with the so-called “father” of modern thermodynamics in Josef Fourier, and exclusively, it has never been demonstrated that a backradiation mechanism exists which should have caused observed temperatures to exceed that at which they were generated by the Sun. The mechanism of climate science’s “greenhouse effect” should function in any greenhouse, yet the results are never observed, which therefore proves that the mechanism does not exist. It is the Sun which heats greenhouses, just as it is the Sun which heats the Earth and creates the climate.
That is: The premise which climate science refuses is that the Sun creates the climate.

So let’s see if I can get this straight… they measured 390 W m-2 surface radiant exitance (why do they show “reflected” of 30 W m-2 for solar insolation, but no “reflected” for their purported ‘backradiation’?… lower energy photons are more reflected for any given temperature.), so they’ve arrived at 288 K surface temperature, which gives a surface radiant exitance of 390.100033732608 W m-2 (if one assumes emission to 0 K and emissivity = 1… IOW, treating a real-world graybody object exactly as if it’s an idealized blackbody object).
Then, because they’ve treated the planet’s surface as a flat disc with the sun-facing disc of the planet as the surface area, they’re forced to average solar insolation over that sun-facing disc to account for the planet’s curvature (because maximum solar irradiance only occurs with solar insolation perpendicular to the surface), which they’ve calculated to be 240 W m-2, which gives a calculated surface temperature of only 255.0652539398161 K (again, if treating the surface as an idealized blackbody object).
Well, that’s a problem, because the two surface temperature numbers don’t match, so they invented ‘backradiation’ in the amount of 324 W m-2 to bring that calculated temperature up to the arrived-at 288 K surface temperature.
And that gives an atmospheric temperature of 274.9379836784526 K (again, assuming emission to 0 K and emissivity = 1)… how does an atmosphere at their claimed 274.938 K warm a surface at their claimed 288 K?
Then, to get their mathematical drivel to balance, they claim that thermals and latent heat only remove 102 W m-2 from the surface and another 40 W m-2 through the IR Atmospheric Window… which is diametrically opposite to the fact that ~76.2% of surface energy is removed via convection and latent heat capacity.
Seriously… did they hire their climastrology staff from the local shortbus school?
It is hard to know what to say to such idiotic experiments, especially when peer reviewed. Obviously a peer group of idiots. I have made the following comment before and do so again mainly as I am making a point so obvious and so good at reframing the alarmists worldview that I feel it should be either used more or else someone needs to tell me I am missing something very obvious. I gave up trying to explain how the 2nd law of thermodynamics is contradicted, people don’t get photons or entropy and I appreciate why. But they do get that Work = Force x Distance because they have used a bicycle pump. Or lifted something. Or even climbed a mountain that gets colder as you go up (even if the CO2 doesn’t change).
So both the argument and the truth is this:
(1). Yes it is true the Sun heats the earth to only -18 degrees if there was no atmosphere and no gravity. Eliminate gravity so the air floats away and we freeze.
(2). But there is an atmosphere which is there because gravity pulls it against the earth. The same calculation in (1) to get -18, will give you -59 degrees where the sun light touches the atmosphere (as opposed to the ground below the atmosphere). Happily this is indeed the temp at top of troposphere so we know it is true.
(3). Now as you drop through the troposphere, down to sea level, there is work getting done under the force of gravity. Use W=F x D. This is roughly 9.8 m/s/s x 11 km = 108 degrees, so the earth surface is now -59+108 = 49 degrees, which far hotter than it really is (by about 34 degrees).
(4). Fortunately in the atmosphere there is the greenhouse gas H2O. It adsorbs a lot of work/energy by turning water into gas and back into water. This has been measured for hundreds of years and the effect is the temperature gradient under gravity of 9.8 degrees per km in perfectly dry air reduces to 6.5 degrees in moist air. Thus the greenhouse moisture has a cooling effect of 3.3 degrees per km.
(5). Thus the greenouse cools the earth from 49 degrees as calculated in 3 to the real temperature of 15 degrees. Greenhouse Gas (a.k.a. H2O) is a COOLANT.
To deny the above you have to deny gravity. This is what I ask alarmist: Do you agree gravity exists? Do you agree gravity is a force, and applying force produces energy (work)? This is High School science.
They are usually then completely baffled because they don’t know how to point to IPPC comments on gravity, or say something “I never thought of that before. I can’t disagree, but I have to think about it.” Which is a bit of a win as they are stumped even if unconverted.
In all the above I have not had to mention CO2 or GHE. But I have accurately explained the earth’s temperature, as opposed to alarmists who are left with an “inexplicable” 33 degree hole for which they have to invent something to fill.
The only inexplicable thing is why gravity is ignored. Once you put it in the thinking the flat earth model does not have to challenged (as scary as that is!).
You can also ask people why moist rainforests at the same latitude as arid deserts that have more CO2 (rotting vegetation of the forest) are actually cooler than deserts. It is because GHG, aka moisture, is a coolant. And why is venus so hot? It has nothing to do with CO2 but is because gravity is high and the atmosphere is deep, i.e. W = F x D is a big number. It is just high school physics.
I do something similar by showing it’s the monoatomics and homonuclear diatomics which are actually the “greenhouse” gases. For the same reason that they use a low-DOF monoatomic (Ar) as a filler gas to reduce energy transfer through a dual-pane window; and for the same reason they use a complex high-DOF CFC or HCFC molecule as a refrigerant to increase energy transfer from evaporator to condenser.
7 – 13 µm: >280 K (near-surface).
.>17 µm: ~260 – ~240 K (~5km in the troposphere).
13 – 17 µm: ~220 K (near the tropopause).
The emission profile is equivalent to a BB with a temperature of 255 K, and thus an effective emission height of 5.105 km.
The lapse rate is said to average ~6.5 K / km. 6.5 K / km * 5.105 km = 33.1825 K. That is not the ‘greenhouse effect’, it’s the tropospheric lapse rate. The climate loons have conflated the two.
Polyatomic molecules (CO2, H2O) reduce the adiabatic lapse rate (ALR), not increase it (dry ALR: ~9.81 K / km; humid ALR: ~3.5 to ~6.5 K / km) by dint of their higher specific heat capacity and/or latent heat capacity convectively transiting more energy (as compared to the monoatomics and homonuclear diatomics), thus attempting to reduce temperature differential with altitude, while at the same time radiatively cooling the upper atmosphere faster than they can convectively warm it… they increase thermodynamic coupling between heat source and sink… they are coolants.
9.81 K / km * 5.105 km = 50.08005 K (dry adiabatic lapse rate, due to homonuclear diatomics and monoatomics), which would give a surface temperature of 255 + 50.08005 = 305.08005 K. Sans CO2, that number would be even higher.
Water vapor (primarily) reduces that to 272.8675 K – 288.1825 K, depending upon humidity. Other polyatomics (CO2) contribute to cooling, to a lesser extent. The higher the concentration of polyatomics, the more vertical the lapse rate, the cooler the surface.
It is the monoatomics and homonuclear diatomics which are the actual ‘greenhouse’ gases… remember that an actual greenhouse works by hindering convection.
Monoatomics (Ar) have no vibrational mode quantum states, and thus cannot emit (nor absorb) IR. Homonuclear diatomics (O2, N2) have no net magnetic dipole and thus cannot emit (nor absorb) IR unless that net-zero magnetic dipole is perturbed via collision.
In an atmosphere consisting of solely monoatomics and diatomics, the atoms / molecules could pick up energy via conduction by contacting the surface, just as the polyatomics do; they could convect just as the polyatomics do… but once in the upper atmosphere, they could not as effectively radiatively emit that energy, the upper atmosphere would warm, lending less buoyancy to convecting air, thus hindering convection… and that’s how an actual greenhouse works, by hindering convection.

In a little experiment I conducted years ago I was easily able to heat a thermometer to 48°C using 2 150 watt floodlights in a room where ambient air temperature was 18°C.

Thanks, you are more expert then me. So you are saying that the dipolar molecules (CO2, H2O, etc) enable IR transmission that would otherwise not be there (if only O2, N2, etc). The IR to outer space lessens the lapse rate. (It is not due, as I said, to the energy lost by state transitions between gas H20 and liquid H2O). If there was only N2, O2 then the lapse rate would be 9.8, and the earth surface a toasty 305.08K. Unlike what I said, it is not the fact that it rains that make a difference (by absorbing energy in state transitions) but due to more IR from the GH gases?
I thought that whatever IR comes in from Sun will also go back out from a mix of solids (earth), liquids (sea) and gas (troposphere). The mix does not matter, it works itself out. It does not matter what the atmosphere is, what matters is that there is an atmosphere – of any composition at all – because that allows Work to be done by Gravity. I think we agree this sentence ->Temperature is a combination of Solar IR plus Work from gravity (giving us 305K at the sea level) but GH gases cause a 37 degree cooling. The nuance I am unsure of is whether that cooling is due to energy lost in H2O changing state (liquid->gas->liquid) or due GH IR?

Given that this journal doesn’t seem to have any publishing standards given this article of the OP, and not that this means that my own paper isn’t of a totally high standard, I tried submitting my paper to this journal. Less than a day, and no explanation given whatsoever, but it is rejected for the 13’th time.
It seems that you cannot simply state some basic facts in any science journal any more, but of course you can publish absolute rubbish. They can’t tell me what’s wrong with my paper and why they won’t consider it…they just say no. The only time it was considered was at the AMS, as I recount in the AMS video, where one reviewer said the paper could be published right away, and the other reviewer said that I cannot publish that the Sun heats the Earth! The editor went with the latter. Other physics(!) journals I’ve submitted to have said that they’re not qualified(!) to assess what I am saying in my paper!
The message I keep hearing inside, is: Why keep trying to publish your paper through a system you know to be totally illegitimate, such as to demonstrate that the system is not illegitimate? If you publish your paper through the fraudulent system, and if you keep demanding this, then you’re saying that the system you know is fraudulent must be responsible for providing legitimacy to yourself! I’m not being consistent.
What I have done, however, is determine that the system is totally fraudulent, and of course that much I know, and of course that much is absolutely what my paper demonstrates and proves. Thus why would the fraudulent system publish your paper when your paper would destroy it?
So I need your help and advice, fellows, all of you who know me and have been here:
What should I do with that paper (which I read in the AMS video)? How can I still try to have it make an impact?
Obviously, it is no longer about saving the whole system. It is not salvageable. The only thing I or we can do is give it to our side. Our side already knows for the most part what a fraud climate science is, but my paper can demonstrate for our side, and give our side the resolve and understanding, that the leftist/communist/insane/whatever system of scientism and politics is totally and utterly corrupt, and our only solution is to develop our own systems and simply move on and away from the stinking rotting corpse of this old system. I mean most of us are already there, but perhaps my paper can simply make the case so plainly and absolutely that it instills a steeled resolve in our folk.
Should I publish it in a book? Should I publish it all over the web and all sites that I can? Should I use PSI? All of the above? Recite it again on YouTube?

I do have the outline and at least half of the text written for a 3rd book actually. Originally I wrote it after the AMS fiasco, and included the paper, but then thought I wanted to try for a while to get that paper published in a journal instead of the book because if it goes in the book then it can’t go in a journal.
At this point it is clear that I shouldn’t even by trying to use an illegitimate system to do something legitimate! We need to go entirely independent with a new system, and discard the old one entirely.

No, not more expert… I’ve just had the opportunity to explore more, partly because of my own inquisitive nature and partly because I’m a contentious bastard who likes arguing with kooks online… some of them have pretty cleverly-constructed false realities which require being even more clever to deconstruct.
It’s not the IR to space which lessens the lapse rate, it’s the fact that polyatomics have more DOF into which energy can be equipartitioned, thus they transit more energy from surface to upper atmosphere (as compared to the monoatomics and homonuclear diatomics), which would have the effect of warming the upper atmosphere if it weren’t for the fact that those same polyatomics are also radiative molecules and thus radiatively cool the upper atmosphere at a greater rate then they can convectively warm it.
Get rid of those radiative polyatomic molecules, and the atmosphere cannot as effectively radiatively emit (there would be some emission from the homonuclear diatomics undergoing collisional perturbation of their net-zero magnetic dipole, but not nearly as much as from the polyatomics). Given that energy flux off-planet is a combination of surface radiant exitance and convection to / radiative emission from the upper atmosphere, if we remove the second component, the first must rise, which implies a warmer surface.
Analogize the atmosphere to a dual-pane window… why don’t they fill the space between the two window panes with CO2 if it’s such a terrific ‘heat trapping’ gas? Why do they use a low-DOF monoatomic such as Ar?
Analogize the atmosphere to an A/C system… water vapor acts as a literal refrigerant (in the strict ‘refrigeration cycle’ sense) below the tropopause.
You know, the refrigeration cycle (Earth) [A/C system]:
A liquid evaporates at the heat source (the surface) [in the evaporator], it is transported (convected) [via an A/C compressor], it emits radiation to the heat sink and undergoes phase change (emits radiation in the upper atmosphere, the majority of which is upwelling owing to the mean free path length / altitude / air density relation) [in the condenser], it is transported (falls as rain or snow) [via that A/C compressor], and the cycle repeats.
That’s why water vapor is the predominant atmospheric radiative coolant below the tropopause, and CO2 is the predominant atmospheric radiative coolant above the tropopause. The only ‘warming’ by CO2 is a negligible warming at the tropopause due to CO2 absorbing a greater proportion of cloud-reflected solar insolation and radiation from cloud condensation.

Note that the Clough & Iacono study is for the atmospheric radiative cooling effect, so positive numbers at right are cooling, negative numbers are warming.
Here’s an idea… to regulate “global temperature”, add or remove Ar. Higher Ar = higher temperature (both because it lessens the probability of the homonuclear diatomics undergoing t-v (translational-vibrational) collisions with polyatomics, and because it increases the depth of the atmosphere and hence extends the lapse rate ‘anchor’ point at TOA), lower Ar = lower temperature (for the same but vice-versa reasons as above).
We need Ar emission limits! We need people asking “What is your Argon footprint?”! We need Ar credits! LOL
My main take aways from first reading are 1) that history repeats. 2) a cohesive civilisation requires a unified religion upon which everyone in the governed area adhere to and generally believes in 3) different religions produce different outcomes for the citizens living under them. 4) Christianity when properly adhered to produces the most freedom and justice. 5) Without worship of God as the primary value for society, every other value is meaningless as they are all downstream from an authority whose morals are not up for negotiation. That’s a great resource you found there Jopo. The pages on heat, work, and transfer modes are excellent.
I would say that his terminology goes off the rails at the last page you have posted there, though. It is actually similar to what LOL@KOOK has been saying. Heat is the flow due to temperature difference, but here the author’s idea of heat is with respect to space at 0K (and space doesn’t actually receive heat) and then that since this is assumed, then the cold body is said to send heat to the warm body, but the warm body sends back more. That’s not how heat works, and his latter statement is not consistent with his earlier one:
“When a temperature difference exists across a boundary, […] the natural flow of energy is from the hotter body to the cooler body.”
He should clarify that the flow of energy in this case is heat.
Also:
“Heat is always transferred when a temperature difference exists between two bodies.”
And heat goes from hot to cool, but then he says it goes both ways with the larger exceeding the smaller.
You can get the point he’s trying to make, but he does it poorly, and now today, climate sophists will use terminology like that to pretend that the cold air making you and the surface cold is actually making you warmer, it is just that you are heating the air more than the air is heating you while you’re actually being reduced in temperature. lol
HIs last paragraph should read: “All bodies above absolute zero temperature will radiate.”
Whether or not their radiation can act as heat, i.e. perform work, on another body, depends on the other body’s temperature. He created a paradox where there is none.
And in regards to space, where he is thinking that any thermal radiation emitted by a body must be considered heat to space, rather than simply energy to space, we must appreciate something which we saw re-developed in the comments here over the last year: since space cannot change temperature, and one cannot move space or perform work upon in, then space cannot receive heat. It is incorrect to say that, with respect to space at 0K, all bodies radiate heat into it – that’s not correct.

I’ve only viewed his “The Charm quark is nonsense” video (I’ve not checked his maths, though) and his “Feynman didn’t know how magnets work” video and read one of his papers, so I don’t have much to go on, but what he states in those videos seems pretty well-based in physics, he doesn’t appear to be denying fundamental physical laws, claiming odd conspiracies, redefining common definitions or attempting to take credit for discoveries made by others (ala Wheeler), he appears to be attempting to take what we already know and boil it down to what makes sense.

And he’s right… Feynman didn’t know how magnets actually produce the effects they do, partly because he was blinded by the Copenhagen Interpretation’s “Shut Up And Calculate” approach which just wanted to utilize mathematical formalism to arrive at results, not explanations of how that result came about. Fortunately, we’re moving beyond the Copenhagen Interpretation slowly but surely.
For those who claim that Feynman was anti-Copenhagen, he wasn’t. That’s an historical distortion from Hsu. Feynman struggled with quantum mechanics for 5 years and in the end he hoped that his path integral formalism would replace standard theory. He was disappointed when he understood that his formalism was equivalent to the standard theory Copenhagen Interpretation.
And Fleming is right… the mass of the proton and electron are equal to the quantum vacuum energy excluded by that proton or electron, and using the vacuum energy density equation and particle diameters, the proton:electron mass ratio is easily derived, as Fleming discusses in his paper “Proton and electron mass derived as the vacuum energy displaced by a Casimir cavity“. Gravitoelectromagnetism analogizes electromagnetism to General Relativity, mass ’causes’ gravity via a curvature of the geodesic 4-dimensional spacetime, mass is a manifestation of a particle’s rejection of quantum vacuum wavemodes, again all working via stress-energy tensor of the quantum vacuum.
So we’re sniffing around the edges of the underlying reality of the universe, and Fleming appears to be attempting to get at that reality via reductionist means.
I’ll have to dig into his videos to see if he has any Ken Wheeleresque odd-hobby-theory tics.
But I will say that I’ve stated pretty much the same as regards magnets. Magnets (and matter, and radiation… pretty much all non-gravitational fields) exhibit their effects via a stress-energy tensor interaction with the quantum vacuum, creating essentially a ‘hill’ or a ‘valley’ of energy density (a gradient) which repulses or attracts, respectively.
That’s kind of why photons cannot flow up an energy density gradient unless external energy does work to push that system energy up that gradient… 2LoT in a nutshell.

It depends upon the geometry of the universe as a whole… except we can’t see the entire universe, we can only see out to our cosmological particle horizon, and what we can see is geometrically flat (ie: the angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees, and the area of a circle is πr^2). Whether it is actually geometrically flat, or so large that we can’t detect any curvature within our cosmological particle horizon is an unknown that will remain unknown.
Note that geometrically “flat” in this context doesn’t mean “flat” like a sheet of paper… that sheet of paper can be rolled into a cylinder and still be considered geometrically “flat”.
If that cylinder was flexible enough that the ends of that cylinder could be attached to each other to form a torus, that would still be considered geometrically “flat”. If that torus was small enough, you could look out into space and see Earth in an earlier timeframe. Multiple earths at multiple timeframes, actually.
But if we do live in a torus-shaped universe, it’s so large that any repeating patterns are beyond our cosmological particle horizon, so we can’t see them.
If the universe is geometrically flat, and dominated by ordinary and dark matter, the Hubble constant inferred age would be ~9 billion years, shorter than the age of the oldest stars! So obviously, we’ve measured something inaccurately.
WMAP determined the age of the universe to be 13.77 ± 0.059 billion years based upon matter and energy density and universal expansion rate, but that’s again only out to our cosmological particle horizon and is predicated upon that expansion (and its first derivative, acceleration) being a known quantity throughout the history of the universe (or that remains unchanged from what it is today throughout the history of the universe).
So… hard to tell.
Ray Fleming thinks the universe is infinitely old and infinitely large. Also, he brings up an experiment that proves that new matter can be generated from the quantum field. So the universe isn’t going to eventually cool and leave nothing but black holes.
He says that space can’t expand and the universe isn’t expanding either. This guy blows my mind. He has a bunch of videos poking holes in the big bang too.

My view is that we are finite in an infinite universe. Like the Oppenheimer Ranch guy 😑. The only way you get to reincarnate is through your offspring. When your line ends you are gone forever.

What is reality in and of itself made of? Base reality. What is it made of and what are its properties, and why is it this and not something else?
Then everything else begins to fall into place.
It doesn’t answer anything to have a proof for the existence of God. For what is God made of? How did it come to be? What does it do? How does it work? Etc.
What we want to know is the functional, mechanical reasons for why existence exits, and what it is made out of, and that includes “God”.
Once you know what base existence is, then everything else finally has somewhere to fall into place to.

Science says that all that exists is matter. But of course space and time exist too, and science simply assumes the existence of these as if they’re to be taken for granted. What exists? Sure, you can call it God. But what does that actually fill in for you? It depends on your personality type. For some, the mere idea of a proof of God is sufficient answer for absolutely everything. They don’t care to actually mechanically define God, and understand how to engineer it and manipulate it, etc. So you can call it God and stop there. But we can also go on to understand precisely what existence is ontologically, how it works, why it works that way, and how to engineer it. But only some personality types are willing to go that far…the INTJ’s and INTP’s mainly.

Hey, I just found out something neat… if you’re connecting to the internet by tethering your cell phone’s 4G or 5G connection to your computer via WiFi, you likely have a limit on the amount of data you can transit to WiFi tethered devices before it’s rate-limited… in my case, it was rate-limited to 128 kbps once I’d reached my limit.
How does the phone company distinguish between data going to your phone and data that’s being transited to WiFi tethered devices? Although some do deep-packet inspection, that’s computationally expensive and prone to false positives. Most just check packet TTL (Time-To-Live).
Both Android and Apple phones have a TTL of 64, so if you set your WiFi-tethered computer to have a TTL of 65, the phone company checking TTL can’t distinguish between packets from your phone and those from your WiFi-tethered devices (because packets from your phone have TTL=64, whereas those from your computer have TTL = 64 (65 minus one stripped off by the phone)).
So rather than 128 kbps, I’m getting upwards of 6 Mbps steady-state (for large downloads) and peaks of up to 48.6 Mbps.

You know, when I watch movies like the new Dune, or Jupiter Ascending, I get this strange sense of scale, this inner inkling of what it must be like to have total, basically infinite dominance over vast numbers of subjects, and I get this intuition or sense of the reality of such conditions. Anyone with such power is certainly going to develop society along such lines as an aristocratic class of ultimate might and power, extreme eugenics, self-mastery, order of magnitude higher IQ’s, power, etc. And then the rest of the people should be commoners and subjects anyway, given that they lack the intelligence let alone the ability to wield power. Our own Monarchs and our history with them is what we see in such movies, just scaled down to Earthly standards. But what if in the middle ages and at the height of the power of the Monarchies, the subjects witnessed great spaceships and conductions of ceremony displaying such ultimate power, such subjects would have certainly understood their own lack of significance, the life of a subject being basically completely insignificant and costless to extinguish. Why would subjects ever be given the access to technology which they neither understand or can develop themselves, expending such great quantities of resources and energy so that they can amuse themselves with the trivial, debased, and degenerate? Boomie you will appreciate how Eurpoean’s basically gave all of our technology away to people who literally were 10,000 years behind in development, still living in the stone age, with the highest technology being the stick – and now how has this turned out for Europe and its descendants? It begs the question: why would those with power EVER share the source of their power with people who lack it? How is there any possible justification for doing that? The answer is: you would only do that if you seek your own replacement and destruction.
So what I begin to perceive in the schemes of the controllers is an engineering of our world to a state similar to what we see in those movies, where the commoners are deprived of high technology and mass energy usage, because why should they have access to these anyway? Picture the boomer with their speed boats, their vacations, their cruises, etc. Picture the 75 IQ beast operating a smart phone, driving a vehicle, flying around the world on an Airbus 380. It’s grotesque…grotesque expenditure of resources and energy and power for pointless and purposeless ends, merely for the amusement of animals. Here of course I reference the test with the gom jabar, to test if Paul is a human or an animal; most people would react like animals.
It seems that for now, high technology and energy usage is being used to amuse people into a state of serfdom and slavery, at which point the technology and energy will slowly be removed until the people have been returned to a state of irreconcilable serfdom and slavery. What technology and energy usage will then remain will be only for maintenance of the state of mind of the serf as such. We have so many examples of this in our books and media of course: 1984, THX1138 movie, these other movies, etc.
It becomes the responsibility of anyone with a family and children to ensure that their children are reared with high standards, ideally the highest standards, in mind.
The control system and power benefits set up in this way isn’t inaccessible to everyone – accessibility to it becomes a function of intelligence, and intelligence is a function of breeding and cultivation. You can join the power structure if you wish. But why would anyone, ever, anywhere, be so incredibly naïve as to think that the power structure will give away its power given that this would only see the destruction of the structure? Look at me trying to publish that paper which would destroy the power structure of academia, for example.

I couldn’t get into THX 1138. I get the feeling that in the interest of movie length (or economics), they left an awful lot of context on the cutting room floor, while keeping scenes that didn’t move the narrative along. A lot of scenes of running, hiding and dodging, narrated by disjointed announcements that only seemed to coincide with the action occasionally. But then, it was Lucas’ first foray into directing a full-length feature film, his first short film (Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB) adapted to a full-length movie, and Lucas was only 25 years old. The audio company THX, Ltd. was named after the film.
I think this film is due for a remake… with all the years of experience Lucas has directing, it’d likely be popular.

Yes that statement from Happer is still based on the climate greenhouse effect idea…most skeptics simply state that the warming is small, rather than the entire theory being senseless from the beginning – most will not go that far, as I have proven it to be the case.
Is is PURELY speculative…the 0.8C. Purely theoretical that is, which thus depends upon the quality of the theory. And as we know, the quality of the theory is not only lacking, but is entirely divorced from reality. 0.8C is noise in any case.

I am not sure about the first two, but the Clintel I have had extensive comm’s with and they know my position – their problem is that they’re worried about not being seen as legitimate if they take too hardline of approach. The USA Today story gets it totally wrong. Radiation from CO2 or from any other molecule in the atmosphere will not reheat the original source of the infrared radiation. The reason should be quite clear, it is all about compatible frequency. As the article apply describes the radiation from the Sun is not compatible with CO2 so it has NO effect. The infrared radiation from the surfaces on the planet are at a much lower frequency and very weak. Only a very small amount of infrared from the Earth’s surfaces is compatible with CO2 a peak of 15 microns produced from materials some minus 60 degrees C. And that’s a FACT.

Yes, so if there is some floating ice at -65C then it will be heated to -60C by the atmospheric CO2 that was heated by a say -18C surface.
In combating illogic arguments one needs to extrapolate i.e. if the USA story is to be believed it would mean that any form of radiation would have a warming effect on any other radiative body. Say the human body radiates a temperature of around 36 degrees C . So any other radiation regardless of its radiative power would cause a body to warm. And so on and so forth, each body continuing to increase in temperature ad infinitum.

That’s what I said back in the SF Bay Area. And we did. Get out, that is.
We’re in Kemah, TX right now, we rented a B&B for a couple weeks while I look for employment.
We were bombing through the hills of West Texas at 110 MPH, 5 miles west of Van Horn, TX, and my wife’s car had a catastrophic blowout of a rear tire… both sidewalls of the tire were just gone… nothing but cords left. Those tires were only 3 years old, and we checked tire pressure each time we fueled up… her car is just so heavy that while it can get up to 110 MPH, the tires just can’t handle it. She’s had a blowout before, so I suspect the tire pressure on the inside door frame is lower than it should be… but she won’t let me increase her tire pressure to the sidewall-rated pressure like I do for my vehicle… that reduces sidewall flexing and heat buildup.
I was already a couple miles ahead of her in my car. I noticed she’d vanished from my rear-view, so I pulled over. She called me, told me of the blowout, and I had to back along the shoulder for a couple miles to get back to her, my GPS blaring at me the whole time “You’re going the wrong direction! You’re going the wrong direction!” LOL
Texas Highway Patrol rolled up just as I was torquing the lugnuts on the emergency spare. They called into the Napa store at Van Horn and found a tire for us, then slowly escorted us into Van Horn to get the tire. Then we went to a garage down the street to mount the new tire on the rim, then we hit the road again… slower this time, since we had 3 now-suspect tires and one new tire. We limped along at 75 MPH into San Antonio, went to Costco, and got new shoes for my wife’s old horse, then we hit the road again.
Contrast that to California Highway Patrol… they would have rolled up, immediately requested back-up, 4 other patrol vehicles would have rolled up, they would have shut down one lane of the freeway for a half-mile either direction, then they would have demanded our ‘papers’ and searched the vehicle, then confiscated anything valuable via Civil Asset Forfeiture. Upon learning that we were not only not vaccinated, but that we were escaping the loony-bin of the SF Bay Area and that we’re conservative, we likely would have been ‘escorted’ straight into (at the minimum) a long ‘detention’.
Anyway, I’ve ‘adjusted’ my vehicle for maximum efficiency… I bought the car used with only 9 miles on it (it was a dealership loaner car, but with a manual transmission, no one wanted to drive it) for 1/3 the price of a new car. I searched long and hard for just the right car… the highest (at the time) reliability rating, lean-burn engine, no A/C, a manual transmission, no stereo, nothing fancy… less stuff to break down and less weight. When you’re driving, you should drive, not pay attention to a bunch of computer doohickeys. I lucked out when I found this car.
As soon as I got it home, I changed the oil, then took it out on the highway for a hard break-in (you can look up how to do a hard break-in… basically it’s “drive it like you stole it”) to get excellent ring-seal. Then I changed the oil again, and did the hard break-in procedure again, while misting water into the engine intake to increase cylinder pressure from the steam formed when that water flashed to steam in the cylinder.
Then I changed the oil again and started driving it normally, changing the oil at 500 miles, 1000 miles, 2000 miles, 4000 miles, 8000 miles and every 5000 after that. At 28000 miles, I switched from dino oil to synthetic, ran it for 5000 miles and did an oil analysis to get a baseline on engine wear, ran it another 5000 miles and did another oil analysis, then I started putting WS2 in the oil.
I put 0.5 micron tungsten disulfide in the synthetic engine oil (1 level tablespoon per quart for the first time, 1 level teaspoon per quart for every oil change after that), in the manual transmission gear oil (1 level tablespoon per quart) and in the wheel bearing grease (10 level tablespoons per tube of grease… it’s messy mixing it and putting it back into the tube, use gloves); I keep my tires inflated to the sidewall pressure rating rather than the pressure specified on the inside of the door frame, and I set the front end toe-in to 0 degrees.
The 0 degree toe-in reduces rolling friction, but makes it flighty at between 70 MPH and 100 MPH… below that, the going is slow enough that steering doesn’t require much attention, and above 100 MPH aerodynamics take over and keeps it straight and narrow, but between 70 MPH and 100 MPH, it’s like dancing on the head of a pin… you have to stay concentrated on driving.
The tungsten disulfide (one of the most lubricious substances known to man) reduces friction and eliminates engine wear… the tungsten disulfide becomes the wear point, and as it wears off, it’s replenished by more of it in the oil. Oil analysis shows there’s zero wear, so this engine should last a really long time, and the low friction means I have to feather on and off the throttle at 80 MPH, and tapping the pedal down just a tiny bit makes it jump to 110 MPH.
Mine is the only 1.4 L engine I know of that can red-line in top gear… I wish I had a sixth gear, it could definitely pull it. I was pulling up those steep West Texas hills at 110 MPH and I was barely pressing the accelerator. 40 MPG at 110 MPH. Not bad.

You look at the energy transfer arrows on the right side of the diagram, and the premise that the atmosphere, heated by radiation from the ground, will preferentially re-radiate more energy back down to the ground than up to the sky violates everything I was taught about thermodynamics. If you heat an object, it’s going to radiate that heat equally in all directions.

The absurdity of greenhouse effect could be demonstrated in much easier way. Let’s consider thin layer of atmosphere, say 50 meters in height. It is obvious that such thin layer of air has approximately the same temperature as the surface of the Earth. The heating taking place by direct contact with the surface and by convection.
The climate models treated Earth’s atmosphere as black body. We could do the same assumption and our layer of air is as black as carbon dioxide is. Please note that our atmospheric layer does not contain anything from so-called greenhouse gases family. Although the layer is completely transparent to radiant heat of Earth, it emits black body radiation being at the temperature of 14C (average temperature of Earth).
Now I am going to repeat the phrase from greenhouse effect description: half of this radiation going up and half is going down. According to Stefan-Boltzmann law, power radiated by black body is proportional to the fourth power of the temperature.
For our layer of air this power equals to 384 Watts per square meter. Half of this energy will be heading down, which makes radiative forcing out of thin air equals to 192 Watts per square meter!
This is 87 times more compare to radiative forcing of carbon dioxide. We all going to fry.
Something obviously is rotten in state of climate science and quantum physics. The calculations using Stefan-Boltzmann formula are not correspond to the reality. Stefan-Boltzmann law could not be used for the radiation of gases.

Been awhile since I meandered this topic but I’ve been having this reoccurring need to revisit an old idea. I would like to build out the earth’s energy budget into a real life, demonstrable model designed entirely out of pulleys, gears, levers and spring scales on a miniature scale. Mostly, just for something to do as a hobby.
It would take on the Trenberth theme and have a crank representing the sun to power the entire design. Gears would represent variables such as latent heat, evaporation etc, pulleys for the climate which activate spring scales etc. Along with balance scales as well using various weights in grams which can be added on the fly to test changes. I think you get the idea.
Can someone tell me this is a crazy idea and I should just forget it. Way too complicated. It won’t be fun and I will just be wasting my time. And I’ll need to have a phd in physics to know what I’m doing.

That would be a work of mechanical genius. It can be done in computer code more easily likely. But then again, either way, you face the scaling to the chaos problem of the real system.

That’s what I was afraid of. Ideally, it would be fun to start with just a simple crank, gear, pulley and a dial to show how fast you’re cranking rpm to represent sun’s energy in watts. And make every modular piece work independently to snap into place. Much like coding functions (). it would be neat to watch it work. And it would be big when completed.
